DO PROTESTS AND RIOTS REALLY ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING?

I’m all for leisure of debate though do we unequivocally consider protesting as well as rioting unequivocally accomplishes anything? Last week, an Oakland Transit military military military military officer shot the male during an detain for the little fights during New Year’s Eve. The video obviously shows which the male being arrested was face down as well as the military military military officer still shot him. Because of this, people in Oakland have been marching, protesting, as well as rioting upon the streets destroying businesses as well as blazing cars. I hold the military military military officer concerned should be arrested though I do not consider blazing cars as well as destroying your own neighborhoods is starting to shift the actuality which this man is dead. To me, this is not assisting anything as well as if cops have been indeed racist, as claimed by black village leaders, blazing down businesses in their own neighborhoods isn’t starting to have these cops reduction racist. It usually confirms what they believe. Same thing happened in Greece the integrate of months ago. A child was shot by the patrolman as well as everybody proposed rioting to get justice. What creates these idiots consider rioting is starting to compromise anything? I know the stagnation rate is tall right right away though can’t these fools find something improved to do than to abuse the leisure of speech?

rallies can be good to show others your beliefs but many times they can definitely get out of hand. if people are going to hold protests and rallies they should do it in a civilized manner. no one likes it when someone is pushing their thoughts down their throat but if it were a civilized rally i am sure it would attract more people.

They accomplish nothing if U ask me.

All of these high profile incidents and world events are serious topics. But, having a buncha “media groupies” protest and riot around isnt really solving anything. Mainly the rioters. That Greece incident is just a sign of people over-abusing the freedom of speech, around the world.

Of course the answer is it depends on the situation. Certainly the civil rights protests and marches in this country in the 1950’s and 1960’s accomplished a great deal. And one of the reasons those protests were effective was that they inspired violence on the part of the white community and the police. When people saw images on tv of fire hoses and dogs turned against children, that led directly to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. When marchers got their heads bashed in in Selma, that led directly to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

When protests become riots, however, they do tend to inspire a backlash. The rioting that occurred in many cities in the US in 1967 and 1968 led to the election of Richard Nixon on a law and order platform. On the other hand, the riots in LA after the Rodney King verdict, even though they caused a lot of damage to the community, also led to new trials against the officers involved, to reforms in the police department, and to more consciousness of the issue of police brutality. So you should distinguish between peaceful protests, which frequently do accomplish a lot, and violent riots, which still sometimes accomplish their purposes, but more often are counter-productive.

If they are the exception to the norm then people will take notice.

Yes, it is in the first admendment of the Constitution that you have the right to protest your government. The police officer is a government official. In some countries protestors would be thrown in jail, torchered, killed for doing such things. Don’t take your Constitutional rights for granted. Let them protest. The good that they are doing is making millions of people aware that the police deptartment may be corrupt and some police may lose their jobs and be jailed themselves. Murder is a crime, protesting is not.

when people believe the system is corruptthen they wont use the system to get justice. Instead they will express their views and feelings through destruction in order to vet their anger aswell as creating political unrest.

As for whether it works or not depends. Sometimes it has. A lot of the time it costs damage to property and in worst cases lives. One thing it does do however is create a fast response in order to calm people down. So it really depends on the situation. I don’t know anything about this situation so I wouldnt be able to decide what wouldhave been the best thing to do

Protests and riots are two different things. You are correct about riots. Justice will be served. People need to have faith in that.

they protested at the bart and the police station for days after the murder, they protest to be heard, but they wasnt getting any answered and was ignored. the riot started out as a protest and became into a riot. after the riot they bart and investigators was begining to respond to answers and the city was then starting to investigate and telling the community on what they was doing. im not saying the riot was a good thing, but it did finally get their attention. in a way the riot was a wake up call. if they dont want it to happen again, dont shoot a person in the back when he’s laying on his stomach with his hands behind is back.also let me make this clear, it wasnt all blacks that was in the riot, whites/asians/mexicans were in it as well…

Hi Tobias, being raised as I have been, anger and freeedom have always conflicted. No, riots nor protests are the answer for anything. I remember when JFK was shot. I was 5. All hell broke loose. Being an avid reader it dosen’t take much to depress a person in the newspaper anymore. I believe education is our only hope for the violence we have bred in history. I understand frustration when someone is killed, trust me on this one. Nothing will change when someone is killed either innocent or murdered. Society needs to realize how desperate we need to be educated. I stand for my country at all costs and will defend her with all my soul. Our government isn’t the same anymore. Politics have politics. Is there enough people who believe in equality out there? Are there enough people who is stand in a classroom with the Pledge? It has been taken out of school. Our first dealing with our childrens education. The United States of America voted not to have this anymore. Again, I ask where are the educators? It starts somewhere. Violence leads to more violence. i hope I have helped a little Tobias. May freedom ring my friend!
